THE LIVING CALENDAR

Maui events this weekend

This is the page the whole letter hangs on: the weekend, all in one place, refreshed every week and mirrored from Thursday's issue. One page, browsable by day and by town, with the subscribe form on it — because the best version of this page is the one that arrives in your inbox before the weekend starts.

Launch state — honest version: the first edition is being prepared now, and the calendar opens with Issue #1. You will not find placeholder events on this page. A local calendar that invents listings is worse than an empty one, so until the first verified edition runs, this page explains exactly how the calendar works and how every listing earns its place. Join the list and the first full weekend lands in your inbox Thursday morning.

What the calendar carries

Every entry, once the edition is live, carries a date, a start time, a place, a price where there is one, and a link to the organizer's own page. Categories, so you can scan for your kind of weekend:

Live music

Who's playing where — the standing gigs and the one-offs, from hotel lounges to community stages.

Markets & makers

Farmers markets, craft fairs, and swap-meet days, organized by town so you can plan the drive.

Family

The pick a parent can act on: library programs, keiki events, and the things that end before bedtime.

Free stuff

Every week names at least one genuinely free pick. A good weekend shouldn't require a ticket.

Outdoors & ocean

Beach cleanups, guided hikes, paddle and swim events, and seasonal ocean notes — with conditions left to the lifeguards and the forecast, where they belong. The standing outdoor coverage lives on the Fishing and Hiking pages.

Arts & culture

Theater, film, gallery nights, and cultural programs — including the Maui Arts & Cultural Center calendar we check every sweep.

How every listing is verified

This is the rule the business runs on. A wrong date or a quietly cancelled event sends a reader on a wasted drive — and in local media, that is the one unforgivable error. So:

  1. Primary sources only. A listing needs the organizer's own page or post — the venue, the county and library listings, the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, or the business itself. Never a copy of a copy from an aggregator.
  2. Re-checked within 24 hours of the send. Date, time, and venue confirmed against that primary source again before the issue goes out.
  3. A Thursday-morning re-scan. After the send, the calendar is swept once more for cancellations and time changes. If something moved, the correction posts here and on the letter's channels the same morning.
  4. Corrections owned, in the open. If a listing ever sends you wrong, the fix runs at the top of the next issue — plainly, not buried.

Prices and "free" claims are quoted exactly as the organizer lists them. Sold-out and cancelled items get pulled or flagged — never left standing to fill space.

Your town not listed?

The calendar covers the island — towns get their own pages as their listings grow. The full-weekend page never leaves anyone out.

Running something this weekend?

Listing is free — for organizers and businesses alike, forever. Every event submitted is also a relationship: the calendar learns about it from the source, which is exactly how the verification rule likes it. Event submission opens with the partner program as the first edition launches — start on the For Businesses page, where the free listing and the QR counter-card program are explained.
